Gauteng: The Heartbeat of South Africa Geographical Borders Gauteng, often referred to as the “Place of Gold,” is situated in the northeastern part of South Africa. Here are some key geographical details: Southern Border: The Vaal River separates Gauteng from the Free State province to the south. Western Border: It shares a border with North West province. Northern Border: Limpopo province lies to the north. Eastern Border: Mpumalanga province is its neighbor to the east.
